2. Each recipe must expressed in ounces divided respectively in whole numbers (1, 3, 5 etc) and or half numbers (.5, 1.5, 2.5 etc.) Dashes or drops should be expressed as such. Preparation must be described in detail.
3. Each recipe must contain at least two alcoholic ingredients. The maximum allowed volume of alcoholic ingredients in each recipe will be 3oz. The maximum number of alcoholic and non-alcoholic ingredients shall be limited to seven, including dashes and drops. No home-made or self-made ingredients, this includes infusions, will be allowed. Blending of ingredients to count as one ingredient will also not be allowed.
4. Recipes will be entered in two categories to compete head to head. Cocktail or Long Drink. You must specify one of 3 glasses, Cocktail Glass 5-6oz, Cocktail Rocks (Old Fashioned) Glass (8oz) or Long Drink (Collins) 12oz.
5. Ingredients may be measured using a Jigger or freely poured.
6. All drinks may be hand stirred, Hand Shaken, Built, or Blended in an electric mixer.
7. Boston Shakers, Mixing Glasses, Hawthorne Strainers, Julep Strainers Bar Spoons, Jiggers and Muddlers will be provided. Competitior is allowed to bring and use their own bar tools to prepare the drinks.
8. Competitors will be allowed 7 minutes to prepare one drink. Competitors may go over the time limit but will be penalized points.
9. Garnishes must be prepared prior to going on stage. Garnishes must consist of only edible fruits or vegetables.
10. If the competitor's recipe includes an ingredient that is not readily available, they will have to provide it themselves. The COBG judging panel will inform the competitor at least three days prior to competition.
11. Judging will be based on the following criteria, Appearance, Aroma, Taste, Technical Efficiency and Overall Impression. Technical Efficiency and Overall Impression will only be used in case of a tie.
12. Prizes will be provided for the top three competitors. The overall winner will be provided travel and lodging to compete in San Francisco on May 12th 2009. If the winner is unable to travel and compete in San Francisco, the second place finisher will represent Colorado and so forth.
13. The competition will be held on April 26th, 2009 6pm at Trios Enoteca, 1730 Wynkoop St. Denver. All entries must be received by midnight April 15th 2009. No late entries will be considered. All entries must be emailed to COBG@heartofsin.com or entered here and must include name, phone number, place of business and email address. All competitors must be currently employed bartenders. The COBG will keep all personal information confidential. Ten entrants will be chosen by the panel of judges to compete.
14. All competitors must be COBG / USBG members. Competitors may join by filing out an application anytime up and including to the competition date. Applications will be available at the competition. Please email COBG@heartofsin.com with any questions or for membership information.
